Susan M. Pittman Collection

Susan M. Pittman, daughter of Faye Stokes and Colonel Wallace F. Stovall, was born in Tampa, Florida in 1912. Pittman's father was the founder of the Tampa Morning Tribune in 1893, which later became known as Tampa Tribune in 1895. Pittman attended English Classical School, Plant City High School, and then graduated from Academy of the Holy Names in Tampa, Florida. She pursued higher education and enrolled in Florida State College for Women and became a member of the sorority Pi Beta Phi and president of the Village Vamps Club, an exclusive social organization. Pittman was also a member of the Junior League of Tampa and Miami. Pittman had two marriages, her first was in 1936 to Richard A. Mack; they had a daughter also named Susan and resided in Miami, Florida where Mr. Mack was working as a real estate developer. They also spent a few years in Washington, District of Columbia. The Mack's had close relationship with President Dwight D. Eisenhower and Vice President Richard Nixon. Her second marriage later came to 1963 to Owen W. Pittman III. After her daughter, Susan Mewborn, finished her school in Miami they moved to Anderson, South Carolina to join Mr. Pittman. In early 1989, Susan passed away in Orlando.
