Series I: Personal Papers, 1868-1916, Undated, contains correspondence, news clippings from Austin Daily Stateman, candidacy announcement for District Judge, and a program of Ignacy Jan Paderewski's piano concert held in National Theater, Washington, D.C. Materials are arranged in chronological order from the earliest to the latest date.

Biographical or Historical Information
John Young Gooch was born in Kentucky in November of 1848, and moved to Palestine, Texas, with his family when he was a child. He married Miss Belle Collins while living in Athens, Texas, and began practicing law in a partnership with Judge John H. Reagan and Colonel W.S. Herndon upon his return to Palestine shortly thereafter. Gooch was twice elected to the Texas senate, and in 1900 was elected judge of the third judicial district. He died suddenly of apoplexy in May 1904, at the age of 55.

Abstract
John Young Gooch was a lawyer, state senator, and district judge of Palestine, Texas. This collection is comprised of correspondence and other documents that belonged to Gooch, primarily letters exchanged with his wife, Belle Gooch, née Collins, and his two brothers, Gideon and Lucious Gooch.
Method of Acquisition
The collection was donated by an unknown donor. It was found in the University of Central Florida Libraries, Special Collections and University Archives, and processed in 2017 (CFM19XX_03).
