Biographical or Historical Information

The University of Central Florida Faculty and Alumni Manuscripts Collection contains original manuscripts of UCF writers. The writers featured in this collection are as follows:

Carol M. Bast is an Associate Professor in the Criminal Justice and Legal Studies Department at the University of Central Florida. In addition to her B.A. degree from Kalamazoo College, an M.A. from the University of Wisconsin, a Ph.D from the University of Florida, she also holds a law degree from New York Law School and an M.B.A from the University of Central Florida. Dr. Bast has numerous publications in books, journals, and newsletters. She has been honored many times for work in the teaching of legal research and writing.

Shirley A. Leckie is a Emeritus Professor of History at the University of Central Florida, where she previously taught courses in American History, History of the Trans-Mississippi West, and the Progressive Era. Dr. Leckie received her B.A. and M. A. degrees from the University of Missouri at Kansas City in 1967 and 1969 respectively. She received her Ph.D from the University of Toledo in 1981.

Nancy Palmer received her B.A. in 1974 and her M.A. in 1976 from the University of Central Florida. Ms. Palmer is a Florida board certified marital and family lawyer. She trains mediators under the Florida Supreme Court’s Family Mediation Certification, assisted in drafting the first shared parenting pamphlet published by the Florida Bar, and has received many state and national honors including being chosen as one of America’s ten most Outstanding Young Women of 1988.

Bruce F. Pauley, Professor of History at the University of Central Florida, hold degrees from Grinnel College, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and the University of Rochester where he received his Ph.D. Dr. Pauley also studied at the University of Graz (Austria) and the University of Vienna. He has been granted a Fulbright Fellowship and several stipends from the National Endowment for the Humanities. In 1996 he was named a Distinguished Alumnus of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He teaches modern German history, anti-Semitism, totalitarianism, Nazism, and the Holocaust.

Wyatt Wyatt was born in Shawnee, Oklahoma and has lived in Oklahoma, Texas, New York, Paris, Alaska, Spain, the Yukon Territory, and Florida. Wyatt has held jobs as a bag-worm picker, popcorn popper, tractor driver, window washer, library janitor, traffic counter, street sweeper, cat skinner, gold miner, wood cutter, teacher, and writer. Wyatt previously taught literature at the University of Central Florida before his early retirement in 1998. Including two novels, Wyatt has published short stories, drama, poetry, television scripts, book reviews, criticism, articles, and political speeches. Wyatt passed away August 8th, 2002 after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Abstract

The University of Central Florida Faculty and Alumni Manuscripts Collection features original manuscript materials for several UCF affiliated writers. Many of the writers presented here are retired history professors of UCF. In some cases, these professors have provided their research notes in addition to their manuscripts. Other writers are UCF alumni who are still professionals in the Central Florida community.

Method of Acquisition

This collection began with the donation of Dr. Pauley's manuscript and research notes to the University of Central Florida Libraries, Special Collections and University Archives in 1977. Additional materials were donated in 1994 (CFM1994_01), 1994 (CFM1994_02), 1995 (CFM1995_01), 2002 (CFM2002_04), 2004 (CFM2004_04), and 2005 (CFM2005_04).

Collection processed by April Karlene Anderson; finding aid prepared by April Karlene Anderson. Paper clips, rusty staples, and rubber bands have been removed to prevent further damage to the paper materials. All materials have been re-housed in acid free folders that are stored in acid free boxes.
