Scope and Contents

Series I: Walt Disney Company, 1967-2016, Undated, materials are collected by Robert L. Glasser during his employment at the Walt Disney Company including employee training materials, reports, guidelines, brochures, magazines, newsletters, contract agreements, catalogues, news clippings and memorabilia.

Series II: EPCOT Center, 1974-1990, Undated, includes materials related to ECPOT Center such as newsletters, newspapers, pictorial guides, reports, guidebooks, and cast member booklets. Series also includes a few memorabilia related to EPCOT such as admission tickets, Canadian flags, parking passes, stickers, and a construction hat worn by Robert L. Glasser.

Series III: Consultants and Contracts, 1956-2005, Undated, contains the working files of Robert L. Glasser, as a Contract Administrator and a Senior Environmental Analyst for the Walt Disney World Company. Materials include condition of agreement between associated architects, construction claim research files, forms, guidelines and procedures, interior design services, legal issues, shop drawings, zoning and other building codes.

Series IV: Florida State Files, 1956-2002, Undated, consists of various publications and ephemera he collected related to the State of Florida's political activities including an advertisements, election and campaign materials.

Biographical or Historical Information

Robert "Bob" L. Glasser was born on January 13, 1927 in New York City, New York. At the age of ten, Robert's family decided to move to Miami Beach, Florida. He and his brother, Leonard, attended Miami Beach High School before serving in World War II. Leonard enlisted in the Army and Robert was in the Navy. After the war ended, two brothers sought higher education and enrolled to the University of Florida. They both became an architect and completed state boards soon after graduation. The Glassers worked at the same architecture firm and designed several homes and buildings in the South Florida region including Fort Lauderdale, Vero Beach, Marathon, Miami, and Coral Gables. In 1961, the Glassers moved the firm to Puerto Rico to work on new projects both in there and in Central America. However, in 1962, Robert accepted new position as a Director for Buildings & Grounds Division in the office of Florida's Secretary of State in Tallahassee and served between 1962 to 1970. The following year, he moved to Orlando and managed various construction and development projects in the Central Florida. In 1979, he became the Contract Administrator for the Walt Disney Company and completed his career there as a Senior Environmental Analyst.

Bob was the chancellor of Tau Epsilon Phi (TEP) Fraternity Club at the University of Florida, President of Miami Beach Jaycees, National Director of Florida Jaycees, President of Miami Beach Young Democrats (1959), member of Temple Israel, the Jewish Genealogical Society of Greater Orlando, the American Legion, the USS Bataan CVL-29 Association, and member of Disney's Retirement Club-Golden Ears Club. He was also recognized by his accomplishments and rewarded Distinguished Service Award by Miami Beach Jaycees (1961), Outstanding Alumni Service Award by TEP Chapter of University of Florida, and Distinguished Alumni Award by National TEP Fraternity (1989).

On April 7, 2017, Bob passed away at the age of 90 in Winter Park, Florida. He is survived by his wife, Doris; son, Dr. Gary Glasser (Adele); daughters, Janet Cohen in Atlanta, Georgia and Maxine (Jeffrey) Giordano in Oak Hill, Virginia.

Abstract

Robert "Bob" Lewis Glasser worked as a Contract Administrator and a Senior Environmental Analyst for the Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. During his employment with Disney, he collected various reports, promotional materials, publications and memorabilia mainly related to the Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow (EPCOT) Center. Bob also worked for the Office of Florida's Secretary of State between 1962 to 1970 as a Director for Buildings & Grounds Division and gathered a few campaign and election materials which can be found within the collection.

The collection has been arranged in alphabetical order; materials were placed in pH neutral folders and boxes; photographs and slides were put in sleeves; construction hat was cleaned, buffered with tissue papers, and housed in a separate container; Disneyland map was unfolded and stored in a flat file; publications "Eyes & Ears", "Disney News", and "Annual Reports" were removed from the collection and cataloged separately.
