Collection Scope and Content

This collection is arranged in four series. The first three series all stem from the same accession. The first two series were pulled to include their respective formats, Publications and Media. The second two series are arranged in the original order they were received in.

Series I: Publications from CFU2007_22, 1973-2006 contains publications from the accession CFU2007_22. The majority of the publications are request for authorizations to implement new degree programs, self studies, accreditation information, and program reviews.

Series II: Media from CFU2007_22, 1989-2005 contains media from the accession CFU2007_22. The majority of the media are VHS and covers Honors Symposiums and Board of Governor tapings.

Series III: CFU2007_22, 1968-2010 contains everything from the accession CFU2007 except the publications and media. This includes academic policies, reports, meeting minutes, strategic planning, Faculty Senate,

Series IV: CFU2015_06, 1967-2015 contains everyting from the accession CFU2016_06, which includes academic policies, degree program, registration, and dean's meetings.

Biographical/Historical Note

The Division of Academic Affairs at the University of Central Florida traces its beginning to 1967, when C.B. Gambrell, Jr. was elected to serve as its first Vice President. Since its creation in 1967, other titles have been given to the person in charge of the division including Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs beginning in 1981, Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs beginning in 2007, and Provost and Executive Vice President beginning in 2017. The line of succession following Gambrell's tenure as Vice President (1967-1978) includes Leslie L. Ellis (1978-1986), Richard Astro (1986-1993), Gary E. Whitehouse (1993-2003), Terry L. Hickey (2003-2011), Tony Waldrop (2011-2014), Diane Z. Chase (2014-2015), A. Dale Whittaker (2015-2017), and Elizabeth A. Dooley (2018-).

Over the decades both the division and the position has had many changes in order to create a supportive environment that promotes the university's academic endeavors. Academic Affairs has established a broad range of teaching, research and service programs to promote the advancement and application of human knowledge. It is committed to provide the finest undergraduate education in the state, achieving international prominence in key graduate education and research programs, developing a global perspective in the curriculum, promoting inclusiveness and diversity and helping UCF become America's leading partnership university.

As of 2018, the division of Academic Affairs overseas the Academic Officers, Strategic Initiatives and Administration, and the College of Deans.

Abstract

The Division of Academic Affairs at the University of Central Florida traces its beginning to 1967, when C.B. Gambrell, Jr. was elected to serve as its first Vice President. The Office of the Provost and Academic Affairs has a wide range of responsibilities and thus the collection contains academic program reviews, academic policies, reports, meeting minutes, and grade policies as well as information on strategic planning, degree programs, registration, Faculty Senate, accreditation, and the State University System of Florida among many other topics.

Acquisition Information

Chris Morgan transferred these materials to the University of Central Florida Libraries, Special Collections and University Archives in 2007 (CFU2007_22). Dania Suarez transferred these materials to the University of Central Florida Libraries, Special Collections and University Archives in 2015 (CFU2015_06).
