Biographical or Historical Information

Michael Crumpton, who grew up in Orlando, graduated from FTU in June of 1978 with a B.S. in Business Administration. During much of his undergraduate experience Michael served in various roles on the Village Center Activities Board, including director of the Village Center Board in 1976 and Village Center Board President in 1977-1978. During the 1970s the Village Center Activities Board was responsible for bringing cultural and entertainment events to what was then Florida Technological University (FTU), and operated with subcommittees to pursue speakers, movies, concerts and a variety of opportunities for students to find forms of diversion from their academic studies. This was important because of the remoteness of the campus at that time.

Also during this time period, Michael was active with the Association of College Unions - International (ACU-I) to gain perspective on the value and role that a student union brings to the campus community. During his tenure, FTU co-hosted an international conference with the University of Florida for ACU-I.

After graduation from FTU, Michael enjoyed a 22 year retail management career before returning to school and earning a graduate degree in Library and Information Science at the University of Kentucky in 2003. He also has an adult learning certification from North Carolina State University and is a certified Senior Human Resources Professional.

As of 2015, Michael is the Assistant Dean for Administrative Services for the University Libraries at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG). He oversees administration of budgets, human resources and facilities, and organizes and addresses space and remodeling issues. He is a member of ALA, LLAMA, ALISE, CUPA and SHRM, all professional library or human resource organizations dedicated to enhancing their particular field of interest.

His published works include articles available from UNCG's institutional repository and monographs Handbook for Community College Librarians (2013) and Strategic Human Resource Planning for Academic Libraries (2015). He lives in Greensboro, North Carolina with his lovely wife Leslie and has two daughters, Bailey and Breanne.
