Scope and Contents
Series I: Conference Papers, 1975-1999 contains essays presented at various political science conferences and annual meetings, the most numerous of which being the varied Political Science Associations, at which Dr. Handberg made presentations virtually every year. Some folders arrived labeled with titles but without the actual documents. The last entry in this series is an empty folder inventory list which details the missing items.
Series II: Published Articles, 1972-1998 contains original published articles that appeared in various publications, the most numerous of which being Spaceflight, Technology in Society, and the Florida Scientist. Some folders arrived labeled with titles but without the actual documents. The last entry in this series is an empty folder inventory list which details the missing items.
Series III: Research Reports, 1982-1990 contains reports on topics such as Florida's sentencing guidelines and criminal justice system, state wildlife management, and county sheriffs in the South.
Series IV: Interdepartmental Memorandums, 1973-1996 contains correspondence and memos relating to topics such as faculty meetings, Academic Standards Committee meetings, faculty annual reports, student evaluations, UCF Foundation Awards for Excellence, research grants, faculty newsletters, and departmental procedures and policies.

Biographical or Historical Information
Dr. Roger Handberg is the former chair of the University of Central Florida's Political Science Department (2003-2011), Associate Dean of Graduate Studies (1981-1990) and Acting Assistant Dean (1978-1981), and was involved in the University's first doctoral programs. He specializes in space policy, defense policy, the U.S. Supreme Court and judicial politics. Dr. Handberg also focuses on global energy politics, the mass media and politics, government policies in science and technology and American security policy, particularly military space policy and ballistic missile defense.
Dr. Handberg has worked as a political science professor at University of Central Florida since 1972. He has published nine books and more than 150 articles and book chapters. His recent books include Chinese Space Policy: A Study in Domestic and International Politics (2007), International Space Commerce: Building from Scratch (2006), and Reinventing NASA and the Quest for Outer Space: Human Spaceflight, Bureaucratic Agendas and National Politics (2003).
Handberg previously served for three years in the United States Army (1969-1971). He earned his doctorate in Political Science from the University of North Carolina (1970). He has been interviewed by The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, NPR, BBC, Los Angeles Times, Time Magazine and Space News.

Abstract
Dr. Roger Handberg is a Political Science professor as well as the former chair of the Political Science Department. This collection of his papers contains essays presented at conferences, published articles, research reports, and interdepartmental memorandums. The arrangement of the materials, including the numbering system of the folders, was established by the office of Dr. Handberg.

This collection is divided into four series by type of document. The first two series retain the numbering system established by Dr. Handberg.
Method of Acquisition
Roger Handberg transferred these materials to the University of Central Florida Libraries, Special Collection and University Archives in 2011 (CFU2011_01) and in 2013 (CFU2013_24).

Processing Information
Collection processed by and finding aid prepared by John Settle in 2016. Documents were removed from green hanging folders and rehoused in acid-free archival folders, all staples and paperclips were removed, and plastic clips were used to replace all metals fasteners. Materials were also rehoused in archival quality boxes. Accession CFU2011_01 was received as 7 boxes (6.5 linear feet) and accession CFU2013_24 was received as 2 boxes (1.5 linear feet) and both were combined and condensed to 5 boxes (5.0 linear feet). The acquisition method field and the subjects were updated by Kryslynn Collazo in 2018, resulting in edition 2.
