Scope and Contents
The News and Information Collection, 1968-2003, contains materials regarding the University of Central Florida press releases and other University news related information. The collection is an alphabetical subject file containing the collected materials of the News and Information Office. Topics include information on UCF departments, organizations, events and building projects. Folders primarily contain information used for research to develop press releases and contacts with the media. Generally folders are arranged as they were received, in alphabetical order. Folders contain materials used or collected by the News and Information office of the University.

Biographical or Historical Information
News and Information is the University's primary media relations office. It disseminates news about all aspects of the University to the media. Since 2005 the department has been led by and Assistant VP who reports to the VP for Marketing, Communications and Admissions. The University had a Public Relations Department from 1968 with its own Director who reported directly to the President. The same year, it was quickly renamed the Department of Public Information. As the University grew, the Director began reporting to the VP for Community Relations from 1974. In 1979, it was briefly renamed the Office of Information Services before becoming the Office of Public Affairs the following year. In 1987, the Director began reporting to the VP for University Relations, and in 1990, the Director became the Assistant VP for University Relations and Director of Public Affairs. In 1997, the department was renamed the Office of Public Relations. In 2000, department's work was divided and News and Information was created under an Associate VP for University Relations and Director of News and Information.

Custodial History
The collection was stored in Central Receiving at the University of Central Florida and was retrieved by University Archivists in 2005.
Method of Acquisition
Linda Gray transferred these materials to the University of Central Florida Libraries, Special Collection and University Archives in 2005 (CFU2005_14). Joanne Griggs transferred additional materials in 2005 (CFU2005_10) and in 2006 (CFU2006_26). Jerry Klein transferred additional materials in 2006 (CFU2006_15 and CFU2006_39). Christine Dellert transferred additional materials in 2010 (CFU2010_04).
Accruals and Additions
Collection Identifier: CFU2005_14; Additions: CFU2005_10*, CFU2010_04*; *Transfer numbers that are indicated with an asterisk are add-ons and the material from these collections might still be in unprocessed. The CFU numbers were added from the Accession and Transfer Records in October 2010.
Processing Information
Collection processed by and finding aid prepared by Alexandra Olson in 2006. Photographs in the collection have been moved to the University Photographs Collection. The finding aid was placed into Archon, with adjustments made for Archon and resulting in edition 2, by Mary Rubin in 2015. The acquisition method field and the subjects were updated by Kryslynn Collazo in 2018, resulting in edition 3.
