Scope and Contents
Series I: Program Founding, 1968-1978 contains documents on the process of founding the Department of Nursing at FTU (UCF), as well as the correspondence of the people who played an integral role in the execution of the program.
Series II: Administration, 1982-1987 contains meeting minutes of three committees organized to ensure the success of the nursing program at UCF.
Series III: Curriculum, 1979-1985 contains meeting minutes of the committees organized to create the curriculum of the BSN program at UCF, as well as copies of syllabi and forms pertinent to course organization.
Series IV: Miscellaneous, 1979-2006 contains miscellaneous items related to special events, promotional materials such as brochures and announcements, and the nursing student organizations.

Biographical or Historical Information
The Department of Nursing at Florida Technological University (now the University of Central Florida) began in 1978 after a decade of attempts by university staff to implement a nursing program. According to the School of Nursing's mission statement, it seeks to provide accessible nursing education to undergraduates and graduates through scholarly research and personal experiences, with the purpose of assisting the community of Central Florida. Dean of Natural Sciences at FTU, Dr. Bernard Ostle, began searching for information for the processes required to start a Bachelor of Science program in Nursing in 1968. Subsequent university staff continued to appeal to the Florida State Board of Regents and Board of Nursing on the importance and necessity of a nursing program in Central Florida over the next ten years. In 1977, the request was granted, with implementation in September 1979. The first students of the BSN program at UCF graduated in 1981.
The nursing program has continued to evolve in its quest to educate students in Central Florida. In 1995, the Department of Nursing became the School of Nursing. As of July 1, 2007, the school became the College of Nursing, which is the university's eleventh college.

Abstract
Florida Technological University, now the University of Central Florida, set out in 1968 to create a program of nursing that would be accessible to students in Central Florida. This collection contains the correspondence, minutes, and curriculum pertaining to the creation and implementation of the Department of Nursing at UCF. In 1995, the Department of Nursing became the School of Nursing and in 2007, the school became the College of Nursing, which is the university's eleventh college.

Method of Acquisition
Jean Leunu gifted these these materials to the University of Central Florida Libraries, Special Collection and University Archives in 2007 (CFU2007_06) and 2014 (CFU2014_08).
Accruals and Additions
Collection Identifier: CFU2007_06; Additions: CFU2014_08; *FF1-34 originated from CFU2007_06, FF35-41 were integrated from the Vertical File, and CFU2014_08 was all publications, which can be found in the "Related Material" section.
Processing Information
Collection processed by and finding aid prepared by Heather Black in 2008. Paper contents were removed from metal-strip binders and placed in pH-neutral folders. Folders were placed in pH-neutral boxes. Transparencies were sleeved in polyester sleeves. Paper (metal) clips were removed and replaced with plastic clips. Rubber bands were removed.The finding aid was updated for consistency among all collections by Mary Rubin in 2012, resulting in edition 2. Additional materials that were removed from the Vertical File in 2010 by Sandra Varry were integrated and the accession materials from CFU2014_08 (all publications) were added to the "Related Material" section by Mary Rubin in 2015, resulting in edition 3. The finding aid was placed into Archon, with adjustments made for Archon and resulting in edition 4, by Mary Rubin in 2015. The acquisition method field and the subjects were updated by Kryslynn Collazo in 2018, resulting in edition 4.
