Biographical or Historical Information
The Vertical File was collected over time by Special Collections and University Archives Staff to serve as a reference file for subjects relating to the collections held in the University Archives and the Special Collections. The Vertical File contains numerous files on the University's colleges, institutes, departments, events, organizations, sports, and buildings. Any material previously found in the Vertical File that has a collection in University Archives has been placed with their collection. Additional subjects include a variety of Central Florida and Orlando institutions, events, and organizations, topical files for artists in the Bryant West Indies collection, and background information on fine bindings, printers, presses, and fine book formats.

Abstract
The Vertical File contains a variety of collected materials on University of Central Florida, local history, typography and book arts, and the West Indies, subjects relating to the collections held by the Special Collections. Files are may contain a variety of materials including newsletters, clippings, brochures, pamphlets, documents, photographs, and other items.

This collection is arranged in an alphabetical subject file of collected materials.
Method of Acquisition
It is unknown who transferred these materials to the University of Central Florida Libraries, Special Collections and University Archives in the 20th century (CFU19XX_01).

Processing Information
Collection processed by and finding aid prepared by Rebecca Hammond and Elizabeth Konzak in 2005. Documents are filed in alphabetical order by topic and stored in filing cabinets in the Special Collections Reading Room. The collection was worked on in June of 2007 resulting in edition 2 of the finding aid. The collection was worked on again in December of 2010 and was updated for consistency among all collections by Nava Cohen resulting in edition 3. The finding aid was placed into Archon, with adjustments made for Archon and resulting in edition 4, by Mary Rubin in 2015. The acquisition method field and the subjects were updated by Kryslynn Collazo in 2018, resulting in edition 5.
