Etchings depict graphic scenes related to the war with each sketch part of a set of 30 from a book titled Sketches from the Civil War in North America, 1861, ’62, ’63 / by V. Blada.. Adalbert J. Volck went under the pseudynom of V. Blada. Albert S. Johnston Crossing the Desert to Join the Southern Army, 1863 is a sketch of an Indian man on horseback leading a group of men. Albert Sidney Johnston marches at center, dressed in deerskin garb. A Native American guide rides a horse at front of a group of men and horses.
