"During the early spring of 1970 a 10,500-foot training runway located on the Big Cypress Swamp Jetport was opened for training flights. To monitor possible effects of these flights on the Big Cypress-Everglades environment, the Environmental Protection Agency and the US Geological Survey established a series of 14 sampling stations in the vicinity of the jetport. This report presents the data collected at the nine stations which were sampled by EPA during the period May, 1970, through February, 1971"--P. [1].

Summary: "On the basis of the first year of data collection, there were no detectable environmental perturbations resulting from the current level of usage of the training runway. ... Although not related directly to the training flights, the monitoring activities did reveal some of the influence of man's activities in the aquatic environments studied. These influences included pesticides ... , water contamination by metals associated with construction activities at the jetport and water contamination with lead in areas of heavy vehicular traffic (outboard motors and automobiles)"--P. [1]-2.
