Summary:
The Shark River Slough of Everglades National Park is the largest freshwater flow system in South Florida. The authors analyze the relationship between specific conductance and ionic composition of the Shark River Slough water for long-term water quality monitoring. They also examine the usage of specific conductance as a tool to document water quality changes in Everglades National Park. Water was tested at 10 different water monitoring stations. Results suggest that the inorganic ion concentration of the source water to the slough and amount of rainfall were the most important factors influencing ionic concentrations.
