Biographical or Historical Information
The Department of Biological Sciences was one of the original departments of the university and was part of the College of Natural Sciences. It taught biology, botany, microbiology and zoology. When the College of Arts and Sciences was formed in 1981, the department became part of the new college. By then it had added limnology to its curriculum. In 1991, the department was renamed as the Department of Biology when a new department of Molecular Biology and Microbiology was created in the College of Health and Public Affairs. The College of Arts and Sciences split in 2006, and the Department of Biology returned to the College of Science.

Abstract
This document explains the types of biotic communities found on the Florida Technological University Campus in 1971 and makes recommendations for actions to preserve those communities as the campus develops. The university was renamed in 1979 to the University of Central Florida.

This collection is split into three folders in a single series in the order in which the report was created.

It is unknown who transferred these materials to the University of Central Florida Libraries, Special Collections and University Archives in 2006 (CFU2006_46).

Processing Information
Collection processed by and finding aid prepared by Judith Beale in 2006. Materials were removed from their binder and placed in pH neutral folders. Photographs were placed in polyester sleeves. The finding aid was placed into Archon, with adjustments made for Archon and resulting in edition 2, by Mary Rubin in 2015. The acquisition method field and the subjects were updated by Kryslynn Collazo in 2018, resulting in edition 3.
