Series IV: Sports, 1978-2007 contains media produced by or for the University Athletics department both as a way to advertise the various University sports teams and document school sporting events.

Series V: University Relations, 1967-2005 is comprised of a collection of advertising segments that promote the University and various University programs. Much of the media was produced as television programing to be aired on local television stations such as PBS.

Biographical or Historical Information

Advertising is a key ingredient to the promotion of any college or university. Highlighting the achievements and activities of the university population to attract potential students and gain notoriety in the community is a strategy that the University of Central Florida has relied on since the day it opened. While several UCF departments outsource their media production, the majority of marketing and advertising done at UCF is handled through the University Marketing Office. A client-based service that operates for both the administration and colleges on campus, the University Marketing Office is responsible for the marketing of the university both to potential students and to the general public. In addition, the mission is to create and protect the brand image of the University. The Office of News and Information is the primary media relations office for UCF and is responsible for producing and managing university related news media. The Office of News and Information not only works with local, regional and national media sources but is the primary content provider for the UCF channel, a digital television channel. Marketing, along with News and Information fall under the umbrella of UCF Marketing, Communications and Admissions.

Abstract

This collection contains a wide variety of media used to document, promote, or analyze the University of Central Florida. While the bulk of the collection is video, the collection also contains audio and multi-media. News footage from around Central Florida pertaining to the University can be found here as well as historic media that chronicles the growth of both FTU and UCF. University advertising campaigns as well as University produced media highlight the many academic and athletic organizations that can be found on campus.

Arrangement Note

The collection is arranged in five series by a subject heading and then by media type. Some items have been cataloged and are listed with their catalog number.

Method of Acquisition

The bulk of the collected materials were transferred to the University Archives by the Department of News and Information, the University Marketing Office, as well as from other sources throughout the University in 2005.
