Biographical or Historical Information
The Academic Advising Council (AAC) at the University of Central Florida (UCF) provides leadership and direction for the UCF professional advising community. Membership is comprised of the leadership (director or designee) from the academic advising units across campus and directors or coordinators of specialized advising programs.
The AAC serves as an advisory role to the university administration concerning policies and procedures related to academic advising, per their website.
In 1991, before the AAC was formed, recommendations for improving academic advising were provided to UCF by the State University System of Florida. Advisors from UCF's different colleges began to meet and collaborate in order to address the academic advising needs of the students. In 1995, UCF's Academic Advising Council officially formed, and its first meeting commenced on February 24, 1995. The Academic Advising Council led several initiatives; such as forming the University Task Force on Advising and Auditing Systems, which reviewed advising technology and made recommendations for advancements; forming the Academic Advising Team to develop a comprehensive, integrated academic advising system to enhance student satisfaction, retention and graduation rates; developing the FCTL Summer Institute for faculty and staff training to enhance academic advising; and developing a Strategies for Educational Success course for students.
