University of Central Florida Faculty Senate Papers

As per the Faculty Senate website, the University of Central Florida (previously Florida Technological University) Faculty Senate was established in 1969 when the senate election took place during the 1969-1970 academic year. The first faculty constitution was created in 1971 and established a set of fundamental rules and values by which the senate will thereon govern the university. The senate is composed of three classes of committees including: operational committees, curricular committees and councils, and joint committees and councils. These committees and subcommittees determine important academic and administrative university wide changes.

For example, the Strategic Planning Council is a reporting committee of the Faculty Senate who assesses areas of the university that need improvement and report on the best way to act upon these areas. The recommendations they provide are sent to the University President and deal with all strategic planning issues, including academic planning, institutional effectiveness, accountability, budget planning, and student services.

According to the constitution, the UCF Faculty Senate members are elected by members of the general faculty within their academic units. The selected members then serve a two year term within a specific committee or subcommittee. The faculty constitution determines the laws by which the senate governs the university and is ratified as needed throughout each academic year.
