University of Central Florida Memorabilia Collection
Scope and Contents
Series I: Students, 1973-2008 contains items produced for student organizations and events.
Series II: Alumni, 1970s-2005 mainly holds objects relating to the Alumni Association, but it also contains a few items commemorating the activities and achievements of specific alumni.
Series III: Sports, 1970-2009 contains plaques, shirts, balls and other items commemorating the university's sporting activities and achievements. In addition, the series holds a variety of items produced for fans or to advertise particular athletics conferences.
Series IV: Homecoming, 1984-2012 holds objects produced by Homecoming Committees to celebrate this annual event.
Series V: Presidents: 1968-2009 contains items that belonged to the presidents, commemorate specific events, or are associated with the office of University President.
Series VI: Faculty, Staff and Administrators, 1968-2006 holds a variety of items that belonged to specific individuals or that were produced by faculty or staff organizations.
Series VII: Buildings, 1967-2004 contains items commemorating the construction and dedication of campus buildings and Research Park.
Series VIII: Colleges and Programs, 1974-2008 holds objects advertising the academic life of the university.
Series IX: Departments and Services, 1968-2006 contains items advertising or used by specific departments on campus.
Series X: Anniversaries, 1988-2008 holds objects produced to celebrate university anniversaries.
Series XI: University History, 1965-2007 contains pamphlets and objects documenting milestones in the university's history and some miscellaneous objects decorated with the university seal.
Series XII: Florida Technological University, 1968-1978 holds a variety of objects decorated with the FTU version of the seal or the original name of the university.
Series XIII: Events, 1977-2006 contains items relating to specific university events.

Biographical or Historical Information
Originally named Florida Technological University, the University of Central Florida is a public multi-campus, metropolitan research university. The mission of the university is to offer high-quality undergraduate and graduate education, student development, and continuing education; to conduct research and creative activities; and to provide services that enhance the intellectual, cultural, environmental, and economic development of the metropolitan region, address national and international issues in key areas, establish UCF as a major presence, and contribute to the global community. It was founded in 1963 by the State of Florida; building began in 1967 and classes started in 1968. The founding president, Charles N. Millican was followed by H. Trevor Colbourn who started the university's football program. Steven Altman presided over the university from 1989-1991 and John C. Hitt was appointed in 1992.
The university's official emblem is Pegasus, the winged horse of Greek mythology, and the athletics logo is the Knight. Knightro, the mascot, represents one version of the Knight theme; both Knightro and the logo have changed over time.

Abstract
This collection holds mainly objects but also some paper-based materials suitable for exhibiting. T-shirts, key fobs, mugs, plaques, framed items, shovels, and similar materials provide a visual history of the University of Central Florida. The Pegasus Seal, which is the university's emblem, is featured on many objects including those created when the university was named Florida technological University.
Arrangement Note
The collection is arranged in thirteen series by subject.
Method of Acquisition
The materials were brought together by the University Archives staff over time from sources such as, the Office of the President, the Alumni Association and various individuals. Items continue to be added as they are collected.

*These CFU collections are add-ons, the material from these collections might still be in unprocessed. The CFU numbers were added October 2010 from the Accession and Transfer Records to match CFU numbers with their proper collections.
General
Re-processed in 2020 by Elisabeth Jimenez. During the reprocessing, it was discovered that 21 missing items. Missing from original box 19 is "Students Today Alumni Forever t-shirt" 2005, "Knightro Touchdown Rush" T-shirt 2006, Ice Hockey Team Roster Pamphlet 1997-98. Missing from original Box 1 is "Knightmare is Coming" Button 2000,and Dr. Millican's Naval Training Center 1, Orlando Paperweight 1976. Missing from original box 25 is Spirit Splash t-shirt 2006. Missing from original box 31 is Drawstring Bag 2009,and Plastic cup 2009.
