Abstract

Carroll B. Gambrell, Jr., was the first Vice-President for Academic Affairs of Florida Technological University (FTU) serving from 1967 until 1978. This collection of his administrative records documents his contributions to the academic field at FTU/UCF. It includes important information on the accreditation of academic programs such as engineering, and also includes material from conferences and board meetings throughout the Florida State university system.

Arrangement Note

This collection is arranged in six series by subject, following the organization established by the Administration of the University. The folders within each subseries are arranged in alphabetical order, while their contents are arranged in chronological order. The Office of the Vice-President for Academic Affairs also kept alphabetical files on numerous matters in which the Vice-President for Academic Affairs, i.e. Dr. Gambrell was involved relating to the University and organizations with which he was involved outside the University, also reflecting his personal interests. When the majority of these records were created, the University was part of the Florida State University System governed by a Board of Regents, therefore, a significant portion of these records, document the role that the Board played in the University and chronicles its replacement by an individual Board of Trustees. These records show the range of a Vice-President's work nationally, statewide, locally, within the University, and in conjunction with the State University System.

Method of Acquisition

The Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs transferred these materials to the University of Central Florida Libraries, Special Collections and University Archives in 1978.
