The authors conducted surveys (primarily on foot) from 1978 to 1981, to document the present range of the Cape Sable sparrow (Ammospiza maritima mirabilis), its habitat use, and population size. This endangered bird's habitat primarily occurs in the the inland freshwater marsh lands within Everglades National Park and Big Cypress National Preserve, FL. The authors describe the birds' habitat, habitat use, and offer a population estimate. Maps are included which document the birds' locations for each year of the surveys.
